About Ms. Wright

My name is Hayley Wright, and I was born and raised in Duluth, Georgia. Currently, I am on track to graduate summa cum laude from Georgia State University in June 2024, obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education, and am looking forward to my first year teaching art at Discovery High School in Lawrenceville, GA! My journey as an artist has been deeply influenced by my passion for drawing and painting, cultivated through the invaluable guidance of the art educators I have had the privilege to learn from. Alongside my love of drawing and painting, I am proficient in various other mediums, including ceramics, photography, and printmaking, and am always seeking to learn more. I will be studying dye and textiles in Oaxaca, Mexico this summer, and look forward to a lifetime of learning new forms of creative expression. I am committed to imparting the profound joy and significance of artistic expression to future generations, as my art teachers once did for me.

“If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.”

Vincent Van Gogh

Teaching Philosophy

I believe that the art classroom should provide students with the opportunity to investigate their own creativity and express their unique perspectives through art. In order to achieve this, I work to foster strong relationships with my students to ensure my projects reflect their interests and experiences while maintaining exemplary art pedagogy that align with state standards. Additionally, I differentiate instruction to ensure it meets the needs of each individual student.

I believe it is my job in the classroom to facilitate students’ individual expression and help them to achieve their full potential in making their own art. A student-centered approach to teaching is the best way to meet this goal. Students need to feel listened to and have choices in how they want to pursue their vision, fostering the critical thinking skills and image literacy they need to be successful in our rapidly changing, highly visual global society. I work to give my students the skills they need to be successful, happy citizens of our society.

Experience

I have experience teaching K-5 as well as high school Visual Art Comprehensive, Drawing & Painting I & II, and Crafts. I am currently teaching art at the high school level.
